Thankful Thursday

Today I'm thankful for the feeling of a warm kitchen. As a child, my mother would press out batches of buttermilk biscuits on top of the island counter on a weekly basis. The aroma would draw all of us kids from the basement playroom upstairs to a kitchen filled with life & love. Sometimes slathered with homemade jam, these biscuits were flaky & warm with a slab of real butter melting into each morsel. Now as an adult, buttermilk biscuits have come to mean home to me.

So today, as the preparation for the Kyrie Foundation cookbook picks up steam, I would like to challenge each of you to consider the recipe in your life that makes you think of home. What smell, what taste instantly takes you back to a time of love & security? What dish comforts you? What meal do you prepare to care for your family? And ... we would love, love, love for you to share your stories and recipes with us today.

Simply e-mail your recipes in an e-mail or as a Word document attachment to Jan Munroe at kyriesnana@kyriefoundation.org. Each recipe chosen for the cookbook will include the name of who created the recipe or name of submitter, whichever you would like best. Please include your city & state as well. Can't wait to hear from you all!

What are you thankful for today?

Today I am thankful for tearful conversations that expose the heart. I am thankful for strength and compassion. I am thankful for good friends and faithful marriages. I am thankful for every breath that I take and for my very good "Kyrie" friends. So thankful for the cookbook and for homemade memories. I am also thankful for what Mom calls "time well spent" during our trip to Valley Center. I am thankful for healing hearts and anticipated bundles of joy! And last but not least, thankful for my Faith.

Today I'm thankful for my Kyrie Foundation sweatshirt...the one my hubby so lovingly had made especially for me. He knows how I love to wear my Kyrie tee and tell the story...when winter approached, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to wear my tee as often...so he had a sweatshirt made and gave it to me for Christmas. I'm wearing it today. I'm thankful that I have people in my life who are so willing to love me, support me, cry with me, fight with me, laugh with me, disagree with me, listen to me, tell me what I need to hear...who let me be me.

I'm thankful that God put Megan in my life, who in turn put Lacie and Jordan in my life, who in turn put Kyrie in my life, who in turn has changed my life in immeasurable ways...

Big Love,
Melissa

I am thankful for heaven. I remember my mom singing a hymn about "... this world is not my home I'm just passing through." I am glad that this world is not our final destination! One of my devotions this week said... the blue of heaven is far bigger than the gray clouds beneath. Kyrie's passing is so tragic and so many times when I hug my own children my heart aches for Jordan and Lacie.. all of Kyrie's family. It just helps me to know this world is not the end... we can look forward to heaven!!
